Of All the Wing Joints In All the Towns In All the World, we took a trip to the saucy, sci-fi, geeky and delicious WINGS.
A favourite with sci-fi and chicken fans, WINGS is located in Edinburgh’s Old Town at 21 Old Fishmarket Close, just the sort of spot you hope to stumble across when you are in the mood for big flavours and a bit of fun. With its playful personality and unmistakably geeky edge, it feels a little different from your average after-work dinner venue — which is exactly why it suited us so well.
The team decided another team day was in order, so we all left work earlier to test our taste buds on some of the tempting food items on offer. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was not going to be a quiet salad-and-sparkling-water kind of evening. WINGS leans fully into its “Let’s Get Weird” energy, and that made it the perfect place for the Caley Water team to switch off after work, have a laugh and enjoy some properly good food together.

There is always something nice about spending time together outside the office. Day to day, we are busy with projects, models, reports and deadlines, so getting everyone around one table for food and conversation is a good reminder that strong teams are built just as much through shared moments as shared workloads. The food was amazing and washed down splendidly with some ice cold beers. A sauce spice challenge was had, with Ronnie, Jinny and Adam all signing a disclaimer before trying WINGS grade XXX hot sauce.
At Caley Water, we are environmental engineers and hydraulic modelling specialists, providing wastewater modelling, clean water modelling, flood risk analysis, drainage impact assessments, SuDS and surface water separation analysis, as well as water pressure services. Based in Edinburgh, we support clients across the UK and beyond with environmental engineering services designed to help manage sewer networks, clean water systems and drainage challenges. In short, we spend our working days solving complex water and wastewater problems — so an evening focused on wings rather than workflows felt well earned.
By the end of the evening, we were full, happy, and already talking about where the next team outing should be. Good food, good company and a change of scene can do wonders for morale. WINGS definitely delivered on that front, and it gave us all a chance to catch up, unwind and enjoy a great meal together before getting back to the world of environmental engineering the next day.
