Another Huge Challenge Completed!

After rowing across the Atlantic in a human powered rowing boat, our Director Ross has decided that his next challenge in order to raise funds for and awareness of Retts Syndrome was to walk the Jurassic Coast. As per his Atlantic ‘Adventure’, Ross was again raising funds for the charity, Reverse Retts.

The event was the Jurassic Coast Challenge.

The Jurassic Coast walk challenge is a demanding endurance event that involves completing the entire length of the Jurassic Coast walk within a specified time frame. Participants take on the task of walking or running the entire 96-mile (154-kilometer) trail in a continuous effort, often aiming to finish within a set number of days or hours. In Ross’ 2 days was the target.

The challenge attracts adventure enthusiasts, endurance athletes, and individuals looking to test their physical and mental limits. It provides a unique opportunity to experience the stunning scenery and geological wonders of the Jurassic Coast in an immersive and challenging way.

Participants typically start at either Orcombe Point near Exmouth or Old Harry Rocks near Swanage and follow the marked trail, navigating through diverse terrains and elevations. The route includes steep ascents and descents, rugged cliffs, rocky beaches, and varied coastal landscapes.

The Jurassic Coast walk challenge is not for the faint-hearted. It demands physical endurance, mental resilience, and a strong determination to overcome fatigue and discomfort. Training for the challenge usually involves long-distance walking or running, practicing on varied terrains, and building up endurance over time.

The full route is a long and tiring route and at a normal brisk walking pace, usually takes about a week to complete. Ross and his team; The Jurassic Juggernauts (also fundraising for charity Reverse Retts) aim to do it in two days. Not stopping to sleep at any point but just marching through the night (way to enjoy those views boss).
