I joined Caley Water in June for a 12-week summer internship to learn more about hydraulic modelling. Whilst studying for my Physical Geography degree at the University of Edinburgh, which I graduate from in July 2023, I have enjoyed courses such as Water Catchment Resources and gained some experience designing rainfall-runoff models which sparked my interest in this field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout my internship, I had the opportunity to work on both small and large research projects. My work largely concerned one large research project where I developed a more automated method of importing a GIS Import into Infoworks ICM. Once complete, I was given the opportunity to present this research project to the team, which I found very valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst this was my main research project, the team ensured I had the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks. I also worked on some DIA\u2019s and started some model building too. I also got to learn more about hydraulic modelling through fortnightly lunchtime training sessions. This made my internship very enjoyable and allowed me to gain valuable experience in this sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I continue working at Caley Water, I feel like I have developed my GIS and ICM skills which I am now applying to my undergraduate dissertation and I am looking forward to gaining more experience in hydraulic modelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
